About Feather Brakes

About BobMy name is Bob Barnett. I have been designing products and keeping fast things going fast for over 35 years. It all started in offshore powerboat racing. In that industry I was a crew chief at 20, screwing the fastest boats in the world together. There I helped develop the kaama surface drive that improved performance by 12%. Next in my career path was as a crew chief on an off road class 2 car. I laid out, built, and set up the suspension, built the exhaust and basically anything to keep the car going. This led to an Indy car gig. In auto racing you are always fabricating and engineering a new part trying to get better flow of something.

Living on the road wears you down after some years so i started a machine shop to make parts for the still booming aerospace industry. The skills i gained making satellite and rocket parts allowed me to design better products for my hobbies.

Back in the day i was the driving force behind the Mr. Dirt-USA brand in mountain biking. We had the first production chainguide for downhilling. We were the cutting edge for front suspension with constant gains in travel and performance that the larger companies had to follow. The 3 bolt mount pattern on all slalom and downhill bikes is there because of the Mr. Dirt ICMS (int’l chainguide mounting system).

After we did all that we could for the mountain bike industry my
Heart headed me in the direction of motocross. You may know our “arc lever” products. Many of the top riders in the AMA Supercross and outdoor motocross series run our gear.

For about 45 years I have ridden off road motorcycles. After 22 years of racing motocross almost every weekend I am getting worn out. To find another form of rigorous exercise I have gone into road biking. The bikes and gear are so cool that it has motivated my design talents.

As with everything i get into, I am too critical of the equipment. The bike i am riding had some of the best brakes in the industry but they did not come close to the discs on my mountain bike. There was room for improvement. The feather brake model 199 is the design that I feel has the strength and modulation to keep you ahead of the competition.

Thanks for visiting our site and considering feather products for you personal ride.

Best regards,

Bob Barnett
